CHILDREN'S counsellor

Connections Counselling and Healthcare Centre is a well-established practice dedicated to promoting emotional, relational, psychological, and spiritual wellbeing through Christ-centred care.

The Position

Connections Healthcare Centre is a values-based organisation which offers individual, family, group counselling, EAP counselling and external counselling services for those seeking these services.

​​We’re seeking a compassionate, skilled Children’s Counsellor with at least 2 years of post-training experience to provide therapeutic support to children within a school environment. The ideal candidate will be an empathetic professional with strong communication skills, a commitment to ethical practice, and the ability to work collaboratively and autonomously.

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver client-centred counselling using evidence-based modalities

  • Support clients in navigating life transitions, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, and mental health concerns

  • Maintain a manageable caseload with autonomy and flexibility

  • Engage in peer support and contribute to a collegial team culture

  • Liaise with GPs, support coordinators, and other professionals as needed

 

The Position

 

  • Provide counselling to students for social, behavioural, and personal concerns.

  • Promote mental health and wellbeing through group programs, workshops, and preventative initiatives.

  • Work collaboratively with Heads of Year, Deputy Principals, teachers, and parents to support student development and coordinate wellbeing plans.

  • Support restorative practices and contribute to behaviour management strategies.

  • Liaise with external agencies to ensure continuity of care for students.

  • Assist with policy development, risk identification, and communication processes that support student welfare.

Selection Criteria

  • Relevant qualification in Counselling, Psychology or Social Work is essential.

  • At least 2 years’ experience providing counselling to children

  • Demonstrated experience in case management, intake, assessment, and referral.

  • Assist with policy development, risk identification, and communication processes that support student welfare

  • High level of interpersonal skills and capacity to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Current National Police Certificate (within 12 months validity)

  • Valid WA Working with Children Card
