Sam Bettenay
Psychologist
Sam Bettenay is a Registered Psychologist and associate member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) welcoming clients across the lifespan with a diverse range of therapeutic and support needs and, specialising in assisting clients with complex mental health issues, addiction and co-morbidity. He has skills and experience in several evidence-based modalities including cognitive and emotion focused therapies. He also has detailed training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and a special interest in Schema-based therapies for trauma processing and improving relationships.
Sam’s therapeutic approach is evidence based, client centred, outcome focused and feedback informed. He aims to provide a warm, nurturing, and secure space for clients at whichever stage they may meet him on their therapeutic journey. Sam also considers that the exploration of client’s faith, focusing on self-compassion and forgiveness is an equally important guiding light towards wellness and healing.
Sam has previous experience as senior clinician in the NGO sector and in alcohol and drug treatment therefore he is also able support those struggling with drug and/or alcohol use and, has significant experience providing support to caregivers and significant others who may be supporting those who are struggling.
Outside of being a psychologist, Sam is a proud cat-dad to Sophie! He is also passionate about good coffee, DJ culture and electronic music.
Exclusions – If you are requiring medical supervision in relation to your drug or alcohol use, you will need to engage initially with your GP or appropriate specialist AOD services whilst receiving psychological support.
