Sam Bettenay
Psychologist
Sam provides a warm, nurturing, and secure space for his clients, whichever stage they may meet on their therapeutic journey. Whilst always prioritising a client-centred approach, Sam’s faith in God is a guiding light in his practice. He considers his previous experience in helping the most marginalised and unwell in the community an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Christ and deepen his faith.
He has a background of working as a senior clinician in the not-for-profit sector. Sam specialises in assisting clients with complex mental health issues and co-morbidity. Previous experience in community alcohol and drug services has provided Sam with detailed knowledge of addiction medicine theory and psychopharmacology.
Sam has skills in several different evidence-based modalities, assessment frameworks, and intervention types. Sam also has a special interest and training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), schema-based therapies for trauma, and emotion-focused interventions.
Outside of being a psychologist, Sam is a proud cat-dad to Sophie! He is also passionate about DJ culture and electronic music, and loves the power that music has to connect with others and oneself.
Sam welcomes clients across the lifespan with a diverse range of therapeutic needs, including those who are struggling with drug and/or alcohol use.
Sam is a Registered Psychologist and associate member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
